BUILDING A MARBLE CLOCK THAT SHOWS SECONDS - Pt3.
Check out PCBWay here: www.pcbway.com/?from=Ivan for a trusted one-stop solution to 3D Printing Services, CNC Machining, Injection Moulding and more!
I got hundreds of comments on my last video encouraging me to build a sorting machine to sort the marbles of my marble clock. Fair enough, I built one. Now the question is, should I put this in the clock to sort the marbles while the clock is working or should I make a different sorter for the clock. This one is super loud, which seems to be on brand with my clock designs, and seems fast enough to be used with the clock in realtime. I would obviously polish the design to make it nicer but you tell me. What should I do?

Very Coool! It was better to sort black and white and then have two entries for each line. This improvement reduces the update time to less than 15 seconds. Also, tilting the clock back by a few degrees solves the problem of the marbles getting stuck. Good Luck.

Wouldn't it also be faster to have the top and bottom row that only uses black marbles to have an isolated channel each where there is only black marbles? You can make it so they are exactly the number required for two sets of numbers, pluss 3-4 extra black marbles in case of marbles going haywire. Less noise with overflow marbles down the spiral and faster time for those lines.

Wouldn't it make sense to apply this sort of selector to the hour/minute clock, too? Instead of loading random marbles into the elevator and filtering at the top, make it load the correct color at the bottom. That way, the elevator wouldn't need to run as fast, and you don't have to transport the wrong marbles down into the bucket again, both of which should help reduce the noise level of the clock. Also, would it be possible to only have new marbles come down when it is actually necessary? For example, for both "0" and "1", the entire rightmost column is made up of white marbles, meaning that switching from "0" to "1" doesn't require you to replace those marbles. The same goes for the black marbles that make up the center of the "0" If it's possible to control whether a new marble is released based on whether it's necessary should once again reduce the noise level and the speed at which the conveyors need to run.

you could try to change only the parts of second that need to be changed, like the difference between 8 and 9 is just 1 marble, also i think a transparent motor blade on the face of the second clock will work nice and change just the one marble fast without relying on the absence of vibrations
